POSITION DESCRIPTION: KITCHEN STAFF, for seasonal summer camp 

Reports to: This position reports to the Food Service Director.

Position Purpose: 

Kitchen Staff members are responsible for assisting in the preparation of meals and snacks for all camp programs under the direction of the Food Service Director.

Qualifications: (Minimum Education and Experience): 

  • Minimum 16 years of age
  • Must complete mandatory health history record and examination (application will not be considered complete until submitted)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Prior experience in a similar position preferred.
  • Knowledge of food safety procedures.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities.
  • Capacity to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.

Essential Job Functions: 

  • Washing, chopping, shredding, slicing and grating ingredients.
  • Assisting with the unloading of deliveries.
  • Storing ingredients according to prescribed food safety regulations.
  • Packing food/snacks for delivery to program areas.
  • Cleaning all dishes, work stations, cooking equipment, and food storage areas in accordance with food safety regulations.
  • Properly washing and drying all dishes, utensils, cooking instruments and cutting boards.
  • Neatly putting away all utensils, cooking instruments, dishes, and cutting boards in their respective places.
  • Reporting all damaged or faulty equipment to the Food Service Director.
  • Removing garbage, replacing garbage bags, and washing garbage cans.
  • Mopping and sweeping the kitchen areas as required.
  • May include preparing and serving food off-site for camp events.

Team work and Communication: 

Kitchen staff may have interaction with other departments including program staff and office staff.  

Equipment Used: 

  • Mechanical kitchen equipment including but not limited to: gas stove, convection oven, commercial grade dishwasher, fryer, food processor, electric mixer, grill
  • Hand equipment including but not limited to: knives, mandolin, hand mixer

Physical Aspects of the Job: 

Some physical requirements of a Kitchen Staff position could be endurance including bending, stooping, ability to stand for extended periods, requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate cooking equipment; requires normal range of hearing and eyesight and the ability to lift in excess 50 lbs.
