POSITION DESCRIPTION: MAINTENANCE STAFF, for seasonal summer camp 

Reports to: This position reports to the Facilities Manager and Assistant Facilities Manager

Position Purpose: 

Maintenance Staff members are responsible for maintaining the facilities and grounds of the camp and campgrounds under the direction of the Facilities Manager and Assistant Facilities Manager.

Qualifications: (Minimum Education and Experience): 

  • Minimum 16 years of age
  • Unrestricted driver’s license
  • Must complete mandatory health history record and examination (application will not be considered complete until submitted)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Physical endurance to do manual labor
  • Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Must be able to work alone and unsupervised at times
  • Preferred prior experience with grounds tools i.e. lawn mowers, weed-whackers, small power and hand tools
  • Good attitude and willingness to learn

Essential Job Functions: 

  1. Preparing camper areas and campground for season opening:
  2. cleaning rooms
  3. assembling furniture
  4. basic room repairs
  5. Initial pre-season cleaning of all bathrooms
  6. Grounds maintenance, including but not limited to:
  7. Weed-whacking
  8. Lawn mowing
  9. Leaf blowing
  10. Brush removal
  11. Debris clean-up
  12. Cleaning
  13. Bathrooms, including sinks, showers, toilets
  14. Sweeping and mopping
  15. Larger cleaning projects – dining hall, etc
  16. Daily collecting and disposing of garbage/refuse
  17. Lifting garbage bags/cans and emptying into dumpsters
  18. Collecting boxes/recycling daily from kitchen
  19. General facilities repairs under the supervision of Facilities Management including, but not limited to:
    • Painting/staining
    • Power washing
    • Minor carpentry repairs
    • Vehicle upkeep/repairs
    • Unloading delivery vehicles
    • Set up for all events, including but not limited to:
    • Moving and setting up tables/chairs
    • Setting up tents
    • Setting up for any off-site food service
    • Moving specialty equipment: sound equipment, water coolers, grills, refrigerators, white boards, etc

Other Job Duties: 

  • Mandatory participation in staff orientation.
  • Working hours may vary as needed for events and needs of the camp.
  • Fulfilling work order requests as assigned by Facilities Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Teamwork and Communication: 

Maintenance staff generally has interaction with virtually all other departments including kitchen staff, waterfront staff, program staff and office staff. 

Equipment Used: 

  • Lawn maintenance equipment: weed-whackers, leaf blowers, lawn mowers, rakes
  • Small power tools: drills, saws
  • Small hand tools, shovels, hand saws
  • Maintenance vehicles i.e. Gator, brush hog, golf carts

Physical Requirements: 

Some physical requirements of a Maintenance Staff position could be endurance including bending, stooping, kneeling, walking long distances, requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate outdoor equipment; requires normal range of hearing and eyesight and the ability to lift in excess 50 lbs Willing to live in a rustic camp setting and work irregular hours with limited or simple equipment and facilities; and with daily exposure to the sun, heat, and animals such as bugs, snakes, bats, mice, etc.
